There is glitter all over the place. It is fairy dust. It comes from many unfulfilled wishes and dreams of the past year.

There, a little girl collects it full of delight and brushes it on her forehead. She wants to be able to fly. She wants to turn air castles into joy. She wants to be an angel.

The little girl reminds me of my childhood, when all secrets were still alive.

The Invention of the Apple Tree.

It had to happen. Something was still missing! There they are, Adam and Eve. Bored, they wander through Paradise, drinking some water from the stream here, eating a mango there, and a banana over there. But what’s still missing? Making love hadn’t been invented for them yet. Having children wasn’t an option either. After all, they had been created by God—or rather, she had been created from his rib. They wouldn’t have had anything to say to each other either. It was really boring. Yes, what was missing was the urge for adventure! Something pleasurable, something thrilling, something that had never existed before.

Eve was the smarter of the two. She felt the urge for something spectacular. Adam was practical and well-built. He was content to laze around. He felt at home in the land flowing with milk and honey.

As Eva was lost in thought, walking along a little stream accompanied by the cheerful murmur of the water, THE idea suddenly struck her: The apple tree is missing, the apples are missing! Inside, she began to buzz with excitement: the apple tree with its rosy-cheeked apples! She could see it clearly in her mind’s eye: the smooth trunk, the beautiful canopy of leaves, and the fragrant blossoms that would turn into juicy apples…

She went to God to ask him to provide the apple tree. It seemed as though God had been waiting just for her to come to him with this desire. He readily granted her wish for the apple tree.

In the blink of an eye, it was there, and the very next day it was in full bloom. The scent alone was intoxicating… so sweet and wonderful… she thanked God for it… and waited.

Slowly, apples began to grow from the blossoms. At first they were small and green, until they transformed into lovely, plump, round fruits. With this tree, a completely new sensation came over Eve. She had never felt anything like it before. Every part of her body tingled, and her mind was wide awake and ready for adventure.

Then suddenly God’s voice rang out: “This tree is only for looking at. It is forbidden to eat the fruit!” Eva was startled—Adam didn’t care much. He preferred soft fruit anyway, and these so-called apples looked awkward to eat. And God explained why it was forbidden: “This is the Tree of Knowledge, reserved only for the gods!”

From then on, Eve could hardly sleep or enjoy herself in the Garden of Eden. The craving for an apple overwhelmed her day and night. She secretly imagined stealing an apple in the middle of the night and eating it. After long, tempting conversations with Adam, he finally agreed that Eve should steal one and that he would taste it too. And so it happened, as it was bound to. God immediately intervened and banished the two from Paradise because of their disobedience. To this day, they still wander. So far, no trick has shown them the way back to Paradise.

And how is Eve doing?
Since then, she has lived through an intense journey as a woman. Yet one quality has remained unchanged: the courage to constantly reinvent herself with empathy, sensitivity, intuition, generosity, and emotional depth. Just as she was back then, she remains today the strong yet empathetic leader in matters of love.
